Vaccination team attacked in Bandipora, video goes viral; one person arrested

BANDIPORA, June 17: In a latest incident a family allegedly attacked a medical team today in Zuban locality of Chuntimulla village in this North Kashmir district after they tried hard to persuade them to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
A video that was captured on the spot has gone viral on social media networking sites, where it could be seen that a family attacking the health department team with stones that had gone to vaccinate them according to the roaster chart. Sources said that a medical team from the nearby health center was conducting a vaccination drive in the village where they were allegedly attacked by a family.
Woman in a video could be seen throwing some objects toward the team, which was highly condemned by one and all on social media networks. Reports said that the medical team had done only six vaccines at the time of the incident and they had to return back till a police party was sent by the nearest police post.
Sources while quoting the health worker who was present at the spot said that the villagers claimed that they were in good health and did not need any vaccine. There was a heated argument that was not properly heard but gestures showed that all was not well with the vaccination team, while sources also said that, both the parties were heard accusing each other.
A top rank official from the district said that an enquiry has been initiated into the incident and legal action will be taken against the involved persons and such incidents will not be tolerated in future, vaccination drive is for the betterment of the general public.
It is learnt that police arrested a family member for allegedly attacking a vaccination team in Bandipora district. The arrest was made after a video of the incident went viral on social media network sites, said sources. The detained person has been identified as Tanveer Ahmad. On June 14 a wife stopped a medical team from vaccinating her husband in Kreeri area of Baramulla district, and that video had also gone viral on social media sites.
