Srinagar, June 17: Former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have congratulated a youth from south Kashmir district of Kulgam for scaling Mount Everest. Twenty six-year-old Mahfooz Ilahi Hajam, a resident of the Kulgam, has become the first Kashmiri civilian to successfully scale Mount Everest earlier this month. Ms Mehbooba, who is the President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that despite all odds, J&K’s youngsters have shown great resilience. “Congratulations to Mahfooz Illahie from Kulgam for scaling Mount Everest. Despite all odds J&K’s youngsters have shown great resilience,” she wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. “Congratulations Mahfooz, may you continue to scale heights,” Mr Abdullah, who is the Vice President of National Conference (NC), tweeted. Mahfooz, a civilian instructor at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) in Aru (Pahalgam), scaled the world’s highest peak on June 1, 2021. |
