Welfare of Gujjar-Bakarwal community need of hour: Hakla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, June 27: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi said that the need of hours in present situation of J&K on becoming a Union Territory (UT) is to take concrete steps for the welfare and upliftment of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe of J&K on first priority which in true essence will be the development of J&K. Most habitation areas of Gujjar-Bakarwals tribe in Jammu and Kashmir lack facilities like road communication, electricity, water supply schemes, medical facilities and educational facilities which put them in lots of hardships and troubles, said Hakla. He demanded the opening of boarding schools in all the districts of J&K on the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalaya for Boys and Girls students of Gujjar-Bakarwal community and also for establishing a tribal university in J&K for Gujjar Bakarwal (Schedule Tribe) students. He also demanded for the inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution. Hakla sought reservation of the assembly and Lok Sabha segments in J&K for Gujjar Bakarwal (Schedule Tribe) community besides he also demanded to make policies or schemes for the permanent settlement and upliftment of some of the unsettled and nomadic people of Gujjar Bakarwal tribe. Hakla said that the government should conduct a new special survey during the winter season, so that the exact population of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe of J&K can be found. |
