After drone attack, fresh alert sounded in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 27: A fresh alert has been sounded in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley in view of suspected drone attack on Air Force Station Jammu that left two persons injured on Sunday.
Security has been beefed up around sensitive installations, including security force installation and Indian Air Force (IAF) airfields in the valley. This week has so far witnessed four militant attacks that left two policemen, including a CID officer, and as many civilians dead in Srinagar.
Security forces have also been deployed in strength in sensitive place in the city, where checkpoints have been established in some areas. Vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, were being checked at these nakas before allowing them to move forwards.
Security forces were also checking vehicles coming into the city from adjoining districts to foil any attempt by militants to smuggle in weapons.
Two explosions rocked the high security technical area of Jammu airport at around 0145 hrs on Sunday. In another incident, Jammu Police on Sunday foiled an attack by arresting a militant of The Resistance Front (TRF) with 5-kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Narwal area in Jammu outskirts.
Meanwhile, three-member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at the high security zone of Air Force Station Jammu to probe twin blasts that injured two personnel and damaged a portion of building early morning on Sunday. The explosive, as per reports explosives, were dropped using drones which caused the blasts, but official confirmation is yet awaited.
Security forces and J&K police personnel, holding automatic weapons and wearing bullet proof jackets, could be seen deployed on the streets in the summer capital to foil any attempt by ‘anti national elements’ to disrupt peace.
Sources said security forces also remained on high alert on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the lifeline of Kashmir valley.
A civilian was killed and three others, including a woman, were injured in a grenade attack by militants in Srinagar civil lines on Saturday evening. On Tuesday, militants shot dead a CID officer of J&K Police at Nowgam in Srinagar outskirts. A shopkeeper was killed by suspected militants at Habbakadal in downtown Srinagar on Wednesday. Later on Thursday, Militants shot dead a policeman in Eidgah area of downtown Srinagar.
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday inducted a Black Panther Command Vehicle, which is equipped with high-tech gadgets, in north Kashmir, saying that it will be used as a command centre for anti-militancy operations and maintaining law and order. So far two vehicles have been inducted in J&K police, one each in Jammu and Kashmir Valley respectively.
