Drone attack near IAF hangar a security breach | ‘Radars failed to detect drone entering into highly sensitive area’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 27: Although authorities have yet not share details about dreaded drone attack on highly fortified Air Force station in the Satwari cantonment area, this incident has exposed tall claims of the authorities concerned to make foolproof security arrangements in this vital installation. Security experts are of the view that sneaking of the drone into the highly fortified airport is the biggest security breach because radars are already installed in this important installation. Secondly on the intervening night of June 26 and 27 was a full moon night and there was complete visibility in the sky so any movement in the air can be easily detected. In a first-of-its-kind attack in India, two low-intensity improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were dropped from a drone at the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Jammu, and they exploded close to the helicopter hangar, sources said. The explosion did not cause any damage to any equipment, but two IAF personnel received very minor injuries. In a Twitter post, the IAF said two “low-intensity explosions” were reported. “One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.” It added that “there was no damage to any equipment. The investigation is in the process along with civil agencies”. The IAF did not mention about the drones but did point out that the roof was damaged. Jammu based Defence PRO Col Devender Anand, however, denied any injury in the blasts. “There were reports of an explosion inside Air Force Station Jammu. There is no injury to any personnel or any damage to any equipment. The investigation is on and further details are awaited”, the Defence PRO said in an official statement. Before leaving for Ladakh, Defence Minister Rajnathsingh spoke to Vice Air Chief, Air Marshal HS Arora regarding today’s incident at Air Force Station in Jammu. During his visit, Defence Minister will interact with the troops and attend inaugural function of several infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Reports said that Western Air Commander Air Marshal VR Chaudhary to visit Jammu airbase to review the ground situation. He would be briefed by the Indian Air Force officials on the incident. |
