6/27/2021 11:47:33 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, June 27: Villagers of two Panchayts of Block Chenani in District Udhampur have been allegedly ignored by the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Department (CAPD) as it failed to open a Ration Depot in the habitation of two Panchayats Kither and Chirdi comprising 5500 souls.
On one hand in view of the Corona pandemic the government announced to provide 5 kg free ration for the month of May and June 2021 to beneficiaries including PHH/BPL categories in the Jammu and Kashmir on the other hand villagers of two Panchayats track 6 kms to collect the Ration from Darmathal Ration Depot. While lambasting the authorities , the locals said that despite repeated pleas to the department concerned to sanction a Ration Depot in Kither or Chirdi but nothing has been done so far with the result the rntire population of both the Panchayats suffer a lot. Both Kither and Chirdi Panchayats are located in mountainous area of District Udhampur with locals facing huge hardship in terms of basic amenities here.
District Development Council (DDC) member, Narsoo/ Swena, Subash Chander said that they have made several pleas to the department concerned to allot a Ration Depot here at Chirdi or Kither but our pleas were ignored repeatedly.
He added that women track 6 to 7 kms every month to Darmathal to obtain ration. Subash sought opening of a Ration Depot at the earliest so that poor masses of his constituency could get ration easily.
