Weather remains pleasant in Kashmir ahead of fresh heat wave

Srinagar, June 27: Weather remained pleasant, though majority people remained indoors due to corona curfew in Kashmir valley, where dry weather is predicted from Monday for four days which could result in surge in the mercury. There was however, no relief for the people of Mirpora and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (POK) where the maximum temperature on Sunday was 40.3 degree and 36.5 degree respectively, highest in the region.
A Met department spokesman said this evening that the wet weather warning has ended early this morning. However, there is a possibility of very light rain or thundershowers at one or two places over J&K during the next 24 hours. The summer capital, Srinagar, where majority people remained indoors due to corona curfew since Friday evening, both maximum and minimum temperatures remained below normal, he said. He said the maximum temperature on Sunday witnessed a surge of two notches and settled at 29.5 degree, which was still 1.1 degree below normal while the minimum temperature witnessed dip and was recorded 13.8 degree, 3.5 notches below normal. He said the sky would be generally clear to partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30 degree and 15 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, the minimum temperature was 7.2 degree lowest in the valley. It was 4.4 notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 20 degree, which was 1.6 notches below normal. The famed health resort of Pahalgam the maximum temperature was 24. degree, 1.4 degree below normal while the minimum temperature was 7.2 degree, 3.5 notches below normal. He said Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the maximum temperature was 29.6 degree, 0.7 degree below normal while the minimum temperature was 12.2 degree, 3.5 degree below normal. In Kupwara in north Kashmir the maximum temperature witnessed a surge and settled at 31.4 degree, 0.8 degree while the minimum temperature was 11.3 degree, 4.1 notches below normal. He said in Muzaffarabad in PoK, the maximum temperature was 36.5 degree and minimum 20.4 degree while at Mirpura the maximum and minimum temperatures were 40.3 degree and 26 degree respectively. The spokesman said the sky in Muzaffarabad would be partly clear to partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 39 degree and 21 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. There will be no change in the weather in Mirpur where the maximum and minimum would be around 41 degree and 27 degree respectively during the next 24 hours.
