Give jobs, plots to farmers affected by Gharana wetland development: Tony | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 27: Taranjit Singh Tony, member DDC Suchetgarh on Sunday demanded plots and jobs to one of the family members of farmers whose land chunks have been taken over by the government for the development of Gharana Wetland. In a statement issued here today, the DDC member said that development of the Gharana Wetland is a significant step and the government needs kudos for focusing on this project which was lingering for the last many years giving a bad name to the Union Territory as the wetlands preservation is something which holds much significance in conserving the ecology and endangered species of both plant and animal kingdoms. He said that a trade-off is must while carrying out such development works as on one hand the wildlife is conserved but on the other if those affected by land acquisition will not be given adequate compensation the purpose of the project will be marred as the value of life of humans is above all. The DDC Member sought adequate plots in exchange of land chunks which the affected farmers have given for development of the aforesaid wetland which is host to many species of birds that visit UT from far off places like Siberia, Russia, etc. He said that the land taken by the government was the livelihood of many therefore it is advisable that the government should offer jobs to one member of each family that has given land for the development of this wildlife project. Tony said it is the responsibility of the government to identify the plots in a good location so that justice may prevail because the land which has been taken away from the affected farmers was very fertile and used to produce crops in good quantity. |
