Clock can’t be reversed
6/27/2021 11:26:12 PM

National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has accused the former Congress Prime Ministers of backtracking from their promises and wants New Delhi to address the mistrust.
The Kashmir based leaders need to clear their minds and thoughts so that they decide what they want. What the former Congress Prime Ministers promised is history. These leaders need to forget the past and talk about the present and future.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government has made it explicitly clear that the clock can’t be reversed and there is no possibility of Article 370 being restored. Dr Abdullah and other Kashmiri based leaders who still talk about plebiscite and autonomy should accept that the ground reality has changed and J&K has merged completely with the Union of India.
Prime Minister Modi by inviting the leaders from J&K for talks has shown magnanimity. He has provided them with a chance to become a part of a change that J&K has been witnessing after August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided into two union territories—now, it’s for the Kashmiri leaders to decide whether they want to become a part of the new process or they still want to beat around the bush.
PM Modi has walked an extra mile, but that doesn’t mean there is any possibility of any decision being reversed. Kashmiri leaders should stop raking up such issues that have lost significance.
Earlier this month Union Home Minister Amit Shah had chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi and reviewed various development projects being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
He had said that the all-round development and welfare of the people of the UT is the top priority of the Narendra Modi-led government. Agenda of the present regime is clear that it wants to focus on J&K’s development and there will be no compromise on it. Chapters like autonomy stand closed and holding talks with Pakistan over Kashmir is no option.
If the Kashmir leaders really want to help their people they should stop indulging in rhetoric as the people are in no mood to get hoodwinked. After the Article 370 was scrapped, there were no protests in J&K and no one demanded autonomy. People want to live a peaceful life, they want to prosper and become a part of development. They seem least interested in autonomy and other issues. During the past 2-years, the PM Modi led government has addressed the issue of mistrust to a great extent, Kashmir based leaders need not worry about it.
