Psychological counseling cell conducts awareness programme on drug abuse, illicit trafficking

Jammu, June 27: Psychological Counseling Cell GDC Ramban organised an online awareness program under the guidance and patronage of Dr. Mohsin Bashir Dar, Principal of the College to commemorate international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
A large number of students and faculty of the college participated in the program. The program started at 11.00 a.m. with the inaugural address by the Principal. In his address the worthy Principal said that students are our tomorrow’s future and we should take a due care of their physical, mental and social well-being aside from imparting quality educational services to them.
In his talk, Bal Krishan, Assistant professor in Zoology and convener Psychological Counselling Cell GDC Ramban said that while addiction is a chronic disorder, it has biological, psychological, social and environmental factors influencing its development and maintenance.
Menace of substance abuse and addiction is a world-wide phenomenon and the teens are a most vulnerable group due to certain biological aspects of their growth and development.
Teenagers have an over-active impulse to seek pleasure and less ability to consider the consequences, and because the internal reward systems are still being developed, a teen’s ability to bounce back to normal after using drugs may be compromised due to how drugs affect the brain. Prof Younis Ahmad, organizing secretary of the program, welcomed all the participants and gave a brief introduction of the program in the very beginning.
He compered and conducted the proceedings of all the sessions and segments of the program.
Dr.Vikram Rathor and Prof.Vijay Sharma volunteered as judges for the student presentations. Based on the unanimous decision of the judges the Ist, 2nd and 3rd positions were attained by Dhriti Sharma, Sonali Sharma and Fouzia Fareed respectively.
The other faculty members who participated in the program were Dr. Vinod Kumar ,Prof Vickey Rattan, Ramandeep Karlia, Dr Sajad Ahmad and Dr Fayaz Ahmad. The program co
