| Police refutes allegations, says militant killing in Kulgam encounter was new recruit | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 2: Asserting that a youth who was killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam had joined militant ranks few days ago, police said that strict action will be taken against anyone spreading rumours that he was not an ultra.
The police statement comes after social media was abuzz with reported that the family of the youth has alleged that he was not a militant. A police official said that rumors are being spread by vested interests that a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Zakir Naik, who was killed in Chimmer in Kulgam on June 30, wasn't a militant. “The fact is that he had joined militant ranks just a few days before he was eliminated,” he said.
He said people should not believe on rumors, adding legal action will be taken for spreading rumors.
As many as three LeT militants were on Wednesday killed and two Army soldiers injured in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
"The slain were identified as Waseem Ahmad Bangroo, Shahnawaz Ahmad and Zakir Bashir," he said, adding the militants were affiliated with LeT (self claimed The Resistance Force). |
