PDD linemen suffer due to Govt apathy, alleges their leader
‘Maximum working as daily wagers, without any financial security’

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 2: President of Lineman Union, Anil Singh Salathia, on Friday expressed dismay over government “not paying” much attention towards the safety of linemen and leaving them in lurch if they meet with any accident.
Talking to Early Times Salathia, said, “PDD linemen meeting with accidents while discharging their duties are reported every now and then. In the recent past three PDD linemen met with accidents while repairing the electricity lines, among them one died.”
Salathia said that many linemen who meet with accidents get crippled for life and the ones who die their families suffer. “The Power Department has not kept any provision for monetary compensation for the injured linemen or their families. The only insurance they can claim is the one which was announced by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for everyone across the country.”
He said, “During the past many years the department has not increased the number of linemen.
No new recruitments have been made and most of the linemen working in the department are working on a need basis. They are daily wagers and not permanent employees.”
Salathia urged the helmsmen to pay some attention towards the miserable plight of the linemen and devise a scheme for them. He also demanded that need based linemen should be regularized.
