Illegal felling in Kulgam forests: Govt orders probe | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Kulgam, Oct 19: The Forest department has ordered a probe after receiving reports of illegal felling in several compartments of Damhal-Hanjipora range of Kulgam forest division. According to reports, the senior officials of forest department received pictures and videos of illegal felling through whatsApp. A few pictures and videos show few green trees copped and the logs manually converted into firewood. On reciving these pictures and videos, Conservator of Forests South Range directed Divisional Forest Officer Kulgam to look into the report. DFO Kulgam Syed Wasim later wrote to Range Officer Kulgam and sought a comprehensive report from him. “Reports of illicit damage under the grab of firewood extraction have been received by the undersigned. In this context you are hereby directed to comb out the compartment (s) N. 17&18 of DH Pora Range and submit detailed and comprehensive report along with your comments and recommendations within two days positively, reads the official communiqué addressed to Range Officer. However, according to reports the concerned Range Officer hasn’t yet submitted the report desired by his senior officer. DFO Kulgam Syed Wasim told Early Times that his team which patrolled the forest has seized 33cft’s of illicit timber from the area. “We seized the 33cfts and further probe into the matter is underway,” he said. DFO Kulgam said that the culprits involved in this crime will be identified very soon. |
