Amid worsening situation, JK feels K Vijay Kumar’s absence ! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 19: Amid a “worsening situation” in Jammu and Kashmir coupled with the alleged arrogance of a “coterie of bureaucrats who are calling the shots”, the Union Territory badly feels the absence of the then Advisor, K Vijay Kumar. After the collapse of the elected government in 2018, K Vijay Kumar served as Advisor to the then Governor in the erstwhile state. After the abrogation of the so called special status of J&K, he was appointed a senior security adviser in the Ministry of Home Affairs. During his tenure as the Advisor in J&K, Kumar was “not only popular for his expertise on the security but also for his people friendly attitude.” His absence is being felt when eleven civilians have lost their lives in around a fortnight whereas non-locals have started to flee Kashmir. Among the then Advisors, he was easily accessible to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the public would prefer meeting him for his “patience to listen to woes and timely redressal of grievances.” “He would even solve problems if even a mere Whatapp message was sent to him,” said an official in the civil administration on the condition of anonymity. “He is a practical man and when the Abrogation of Article 370 took place, he was among the main faces who handled the situation with expertise,” said an observer keeping close track on the situation. Whereas for the last over a year, the bureaucrats are accused of “arrogance and complaints of corruption in the administration are breaking records, presence of some hard task master” like K Vijay Kumar can bring in “much needed respite.” “An Advisor who had maintained disciple can bring back that same discipline in making bureaucracy accountable. Because otherwise at the moment BJP is facing public alienation only due to wrongdoings of the Babu Raaj and it is something for New Delhi to probe,” said an expert on governance, on the condition of anonymity. A retired officer of the Indian Police Service, K Vijay Kumar has served as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force and the director of the National Police Academy in Hyderabad. He led the Tamil Nadu Police’s special task force that killed sandalwood smuggler Veerappan in 2004. Following retirement, Kumar was appointed as the senior security adviser in the Home Ministry. |
