Non-local traders leaving Sopore Mandi | ‘We’ve come here to earn not to die’ | | Early Times Report
Sopore, Oct 19: Recent killings of non-locals in the Valley have hit the fruit industry in North Kashmir’s Sopore area. A non-local trader said, “We have been coming to Sopore Fruit Mandi for the past many years, but we haven’t seen such an atmosphere of terror before. Recent killings of non-locals have shaken us to the core and we are terrified. A few outsiders have already left Sopore Fruit Mandi and many are planning to leave in coming days. We have come here to earn no to die.” A local trader said, “The recent killings have had a direct impact on our business. Many non-locals who have been working with us from the past many years don’t want to stay despite them being assured of security by the police.” It’s in place to mention here that eleven civilians, including five non-locals, have been killed across Kashmir by the militants in the past few days following which many non-local labourers have moved out from the Valley. |
