Doda, Dec 21: Just a day after the PDD employees called off the strike, the safaikaramcharis (sweepers) who work with different municipalities in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts organised a meeting in Thathri town on Tuesday. As per details available with Early Times, the Karamcharis formed a union of three districts and named it as Chenab Valley Safaikaramcharis Union here today and discussed their long pending demands, which include regularisation after a 7-year period, pension after retirement, salary as per UT rate and implementation of minimum wages act. Various municipality level union presidents and others from Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Ramban, and Banihal were also present there. In a press conference, newly appointed Vice-president Showket Hussain said, “We organised today’s meeting to give an ultimatum of seven days to the government to fulfill our genuine demands because every government has promised us that our demands would be met, but in the end, they betrayed us.” “Now we are requesting the LG administration to fulfill our major and genuine demands within seven days, otherwise we will sit on a Kaam Choro strike.” Meanwhile, an activist and Mazdoor Dastgar Union District President Doda, Bilal Ahmed, extended his support for this union and said, “I, as President of Mazdoor Dastgar Union, extend my support to these Safaikaramcharis and I request the Central Government that from top to bottom, this is your government. Now accept the demands of these Safaikaramcharis. If the demands are not accepted, then there will be garbage everywhere in our town, which is really dangerous at the time of the coronavirus and no one will lift it, so fulfill the demands before the strike.” |
