KVK Reasi organizes training programme on fruit& vegetable processing | | | Early Times Report
REASI, Dec 29: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi organized training programme on “entrepreneurship development in fruit and vegetable processing” at Malad village here. The programme was attended by the number of young women farmers of the area. The programme was organized under attracting and retaining youths in agriculture (ARYA) project. The programme was organized under the stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. J P Sharma and guidance of Director Extension, Dr. S K Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi briefed the objectives of the ARYA project and highlighted the need of youths in agriculture. He narrated that ARYA project is an opportunity for the youths to showcase their creativity through agri-entrepreneurship. Dr. Banarsi said that fruits and vegetables are rich source of proteins, minerals and vitamins and by their value addition techniques farmers can generate more income and employment. He gave a detail view on the significance of fruits and vegetables processing to enhance the income and employment of rural women of hilly areas. He motivated the participants for the processing of fruits and vegetables by which they can generate more money. Dr, Banarsi stressed on Self Help Groups (SHGs) formation and added that the women should jointly work for the entrepreneurship in the processed products of fruits and vegetables. He motivated the women farmers by exemplifying the successful agro-entrepreneurs in the area and encouraged them to start more and more processing units. He also guided the participants on packaging, labeling and branding of the processed products. Dr. Shuja Nabi Qureshi, scientist said that fruits and vegetables processing have immense scope in hilly areas as the women farmers generate extra income and employment for their livelihood. He demonstrated the scientific techniques of processing of fruits and vegetables. He guided the participants in the preparation of aonla candy, morabba, pickles, juice etc. by elaborating their scientific preparation. |
