Jammu, Jan 8: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday received the season’s first snowfall. A shrine official said the area got 8 to 10 inches of snow. Earlier, the snow covered the upper reaches of the Trikuta Hills where the temple is located. “The new track is closed due to accumulation of snow and the battery car has been suspended,” he said. “But the pilgrimage is progressing smoothly from an old traditional route. Till afternoon (today), nearly 7,000 pilgrims have proceeded from Katra,” he said. The helicopter service was also affected due to dense fog and poor visibility in the hills. |
