1/8/2022 11:28:46 PM
Early Times Report

Bijbehara, Jan 8: Anantnag Police on Saturday booked 10 PDP Leaders including Party Vice-President Abdul Rehman Veeri for violating COVID-19 SOP’s by gathering large numbers at Bijbehara on Friday.
FIR No. 4/2022 U/S 188, 269 has been registered against the PDP Leader at Police Station Bijbehara, officials told ET.
Executive Magistrate 1st Class-Bijbehara Ghulam Rasool Bhat in a communique, a copy of which lies with this newspaper, asked SHO Police Station Bijbehara to book 10 persons including former Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and Mehbooba’s maternal uncle Sartaj Madni and 8 others under relevant sections of law for organizing a rally on the death anniversary of late chief minister Mufit Muhammad Sayeed in Zirpara Padshahi bagh area of Bijbehara against the violation of Covid-19 SOPs.
Executive Magistrate 1st Class-Bijbehara as per this communique has said that at least 10 persons from Peoples Democratic Party organized a large gathering in Bijbehara in complete violation of SOP’s and Covid appropriate behavior which may result in spreading of Covid-19 and other related epidemic.
The others who have been held for violating COVID-19 Protocol and subsequently book include Youth Leader Najmu Saqib, District President Anantnag Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, MC President Bijbehara Majid Ahmad Khan, Abdul Majeed Rangraiz, Showkat Ahmad Teeli, Mufti Sarwar, Arshid Ahmad Ganie and Nazir Ahmad Vaid.
However Arshid Ahmad Ganie and Nazir Ahmad Vaid figuring at Serial No. 9 and 10 told Early Times that they weren’t affiliated with PDP and didn’t attend the rally on Friday.
Reacting to this development, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti alleged that administration was ‘brazenly’ working against her party.
“Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PMs rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volumes about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.
Important to mention here, SSP Anantnag had issued a conditional permission in favor of PDP for Friday’s function and asked the organizers that they should allow people to take procession and violate Covid-19 SOPs.
