Snowfall, rains puncture Govt claims
• Claiming to attract global investment, J&K Admin fails to tackle inclement weather
1/8/2022 11:30:57 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 8: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is virtually brought to its knees by the incessant rains in the plains and snowfall in the upper reaches.
The government, which is claiming to attract private investors from across the globe, has failed to even ensure an uninterrupted power supply during inclement weather conditions.
Most of the important road networks have been chocked during the last three days due to the accumulation of snow and landslide.
Life in Jammu and Kashmir has virtually come to standstill due to the complete failure of the system. Instead of taking some effective steps to minimize the misery of the masses, the arrogant Babus are waiting for the improvement of weather conditions.
During the last three days, inclement weather threw traffic into disarray and inundated several key stretches and underpasses in Jammu city also, exposing the tall claims of development in the city.
What to say of hilly areas, even functioning of the international airport of Srinagar was came to standstill due to low visibility which is a clear indication of available infrastructure in J&K.
The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on said that the Srinagar International Airport lacks landing aids that enable runways to remain open when visibility dips.
“Our ‘international airport’ has no landing aids that enable the runway to remain open when visibility dips. We make such a big deal about tourism and investment promotion now imagine the plight of those tourists who’ve sat all day outside the terminal &watched their flights get cancelled”, Omar tweeted.
‘Not to mention the locals who will have their tickets cancelled and be told to buy fresh ones with fares that touch the stratosphere.
Travel in and out from the Valley in winter is not a pleasant experience’, he stated in another tweet.
Spokesperson of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) M Y Tarigami has reason to castigate the administration for its ill-preparedness to handle the expected snowfall.
Tarigamisaid the tall claims made by the authorities on their alertness have been exposed by the power breakdown, road blockades, sanctity of ration, and other difficulties faced by the people.
In a statement issued here today, the CPI (M) leader said that although a heavy snowfall is not something new for the region but tall claims being made prove a prank.
Referring to the massive power breakdown that had plunged the entire valley into total darkness, he said that the administration failed to restore power supplies. “in most of the areas in the Valley especially South Kashmir, the restorations claims made by the Power Department are a hoax.
Tarigami wondered that with a few inches of snow the entire administration comes to a grinding halt which is reflective of a dire need for strengthening of disaster preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The snow is yet to be cleared on many roads and a major road network in rural areas across the Valley is yet to see the traffic plying resulting in tremendous inconvenience for the general public.
