Sunrise Public School, Channi Himmat celebrates Lohri with zeal & enthusiasm

JAMMU, Jan 12: Lohri was celebrated at Sunrise Public School, Channi Himmat with zeal and enthusiasm. The mood on the school campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. A special assembly was conducted in which the students from junior and senior wings participated.
Santosh and Rohit from class 6, showcasing their marvelous oratory skills recited a poem and delivered a speech based on Lohri celebration. Tannu from class 5 sang a very melodious song immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab whereas Kiran from class I and Saloni from class 4 told about the significance of Lohri. The students from class 3 stole the show by singing the Lohri song ‘Sunder Munderiye’.
To add fun, the teachers from kindergarten enacted on the story of ‘Dhulla Bhatti wala’ and also performed Gidha, the folk dance of Punjab. On the occasion, both children and teachers gathered in the school play field where a bonfire was lit.
Folk songs were played to make the mood and soon everybody joined in the energetic rhythm! Peanuts, popcorn and gajak were handed out to the great delight of the children.
Founder trustee Rajesh Sharma along with all other teachers worshipped 'Dhooni' and groundnuts and sweets were also distributed among the students and congratulated all and dwelled on the importance of such festivals. Founder Director of School Manpreet joined them with the hope that the coming year would bring happiness in the lives of the students and teachers as well. She emphasized that Lohri festival prompts people to be thankful for God’s provision and also encouraged teachers to play a vital role to keep the tradition and culture alive in our festivities.
