Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: Within minutes after the first-ever stampede at the Bhawan of Mata Vaishno Devi, the Jammu and Kashmir Government had announced a three-member inquiry panel to find a reason for the incident. The panel was constituted on January 1 and it was announced that it will submit its report within a week but the government has not given any statement about the findings of the panel. As devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi, across the globe, were shocked over the first-ever stampede at the Bhawan at the most revered shrine, the J&K government announced setting up of a committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) Shaleen Kabra, with Divisional Commissioner Jammu Rajiv Langar and Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh as its members to probe the incident. The panel was asked to submit a report within a week so as to fix responsibility on those who were responsible for the tragedy. A day after its constitution, the three-member committee had asked the people to provide evidence related to the stampede at gate number three of the Bhawan. “It is for the information of the general public that any person who desires to furnish any facts, statements, electronic evidence, etc, regarding the incident; may share same on the email id: divcomjmu¬ jk@n ic.in or Whatsapp- No: 09419202723 or Landline No: 0191-2478996 by or before 05-01-2022", the notice issued by Divisional Commissioner Jammu mentioned. “Any person who desires to meet in person, may appear before the said Enquiry Committee in person between 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM on 05-01-2022 in the Office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Rail Head Complex, Panama Chowk; to furnish any statements/ facts/ evidence", the notice further mentioned. As reported earlier by this newspaper, the government has already decided to close all booking counters of Yatra slips after making online registration mandatory of the Yatra from Katra to Bhawan. This step has been taken to regulate the numbers of devotees performing the pilgrimage of Mata Vaishno Devi but the biggest question is about poor devotees who don't have smart mobile phones. 50 percent of the total pilgrims, who perform Yatra, belong to poor families and a majority of them could not afford to purchase a smartphone which is required for online registration of Yatra. |
