Gifted girl of Kishtwar wants to bring glory to her country | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 15: In an extra ordinary grit and determination, a girl from one of the remotest villages, Loi Dhar in Mughalmaidan of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir namely 15 year old Sheetal Devi, was born without hands (Phocomelia), but her actions and the Spirit with which she has moved on in life is an inspiration for all. Like other children of her age, she does go to school, studies well and also does most of the work on her own, but all with her toes. Life in mountains is really tough but this has made Sheetal even tougher, and strengthened her grit and resolve. She has always dreamt of becoming a teacher and to be a contributor to the society. Life was going along normally for her until she was noticed by Rashtriya Rifles unit of Indian Army at one of the events for Youth at Mughal Maidan in 2019. Recognising her talent, she was adopted by Army for her education. Concurrently, efforts were being made by Army to seek medical help and provide her with artificial limbs. In continuation of the same, finally it was due to the efforts put on social media that helped in achieving desired results, when in May 2021, Bengaluru based Meghna Girish, mother of Nagrota martyr Major Akshay Girish came forward to help. Further with her efforts, renowned actor Anupam Kher, after analyzing the case, committed financial help through his NGO for Sheetal's treatment for artificial limbs. This set the course and with Army's assistance, Sheetal along with her parents went to Bengaluru on 05th Jul 2021, where Dr Pramod Chandil and his team of doctors did the investigation and feasibility tests and found Sheetal fit for the same. This was followed by surgery for preparing the limbs for fitting processes. Thereafter she returned to Kishtwar on 16 July 2021. For the next stage, Sheetal again moved to Bengaluru on 19 August 2021 along with her parents and Army medical representative. Finally the fitting process started at Yellow Ribbon Hospital and subsequent adjustments were done. Bionic arm was fitted on the right limb (master limb) and cosmetic arm on the left limb. Sheetal thereafter underwent adaptability training exercises under the team of Doctors at Kare Prosthetics Hospital. She was also tested for potential for Para Spots by an NGO, Go Sports and it was found that she had potential to do well in Para Sports like athletics. Sheetal finally moved back to her village in Kishtwar on 05 September 2021. High on confidence, with her newly fitted arms, her resolve has become even stronger towards realizing her dream of becoming a teacher. She is presently in class 10' and has already become a role model for the girls and the youth in the region. National Coach of Archery (Paralympics) after evaluating her fitness has decided to train her for Archery. Coach Kuldeep Baidwan is confident that Sheetal will win medals for country in the future and he will train her for getting Gold medal at Para Olympics. Sheetal will now proceed for Archery training from National Archery Coach with the help of Bengaiuru based social activist irs Meghna Girish and an NGO (The Being You). With a strong resolve, Sheetal is all set to pursue her dreams. Speaking to her Times, Sheetal thank everyone who help her and resolve to win a medal for the country. |
