Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 15: Residents of Samburbugh staged a protest today against administration at the press colony, wherein they alleged that the SDA department did high hardness with them.
Almost there are sixty households that are rendering homeless know, as we don’t have our land, if the concerned administration of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has provided few chunks of land to other residents in our colony, why injustice is being done with only few people, said a group of protestors at press colony Srinagar.
One of the protesters said that, “we are not demanding a huge land, let the authorities give us only 2-3 malras of land where we can rebuild our houses.
“The concerned department of SDA was trying to give land to 19 households there, for which we raise our voice, after which police used force against we people, many of us got burn injuries, '' said protestors.
Another protester, Hamida said that there are almost 60 households that don’t have their own land, where they can reside or make their own houses. Police have beaten us ruthlessly, even though they have not spared children, many people are injured.
Another protester said that, we are rendering homeless, hollow promises were made with us in the past, as people from different departments had assured us to rehabilitate somewhere, but nothing has been done so far.
An eyewitness said that, residents of Somburbugh staged a protest against the administration as they alleged that the SDA department did high hardness with them.
During this harsh period of winter, especially Chillai Kalan, for God’s sake can anybody tell us where we will go along with our children, we appeal to the LG administration to take strict action against the department, protesters observed.
It is learnt that in the recent past the enforcement wing of Srinagar Development Authority had carried out demolition drives at various places in Srinagar against illegal constructions carried out by some unscrupulous persons.
The people residing within SDA jurisdiction have been warned not to go for any illegal construction/encroachments.
However sources said that, there are various centrally sponsored schemes under which laborers or slum dwellers can be benefited, various households are living in the makeshift slum colonies in Srinagar, the government should take steps to consider them for affordable housing units under various schemes.
