JKSLCA holds Awareness program on Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures

JAMMU, Jan 15: Jammu & Kashmir State-Level Coordinating Agency (JKSLCA) under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), on Saturday, organized a one-day awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" for teachers and senior students at Regional Educational Society, Kathua, district Samba.
As per the handout, by strictly following the COVID-19 protocol, around 40 participants participated in the program. Project Director, Suraj Prakash welcomed the SLCA team and talked about the prevailing drug situation in India. Resource person, Shikha from NGO delivered a lecture on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. As per National Action Plan on Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Government of India (GOI), programs like these need to be conducted on a regular basis covering all strata of society.
The resource person talked about the motive of the program which is to generate awareness regarding Drug Abuse, preventive measures, and treatment. She explained that Drug/ alcohol abuse is rising day by day in society and the youth of our society is involved at a large number in addiction. She discussed various types of drugs (tobacco, caffeine, depressants, stimulants, etc.) and how they are consumed. Shikha educated the participants about the long- and short-term effects of different types of drugs on the body, mind, career, and family. She further added that drug addiction is not only confined to body, mind, and career but is also illegal to consume.
A poster-making competition was organized by the SLCA team for senior students. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition. Pamphlets were distributed among the participants. The program ended with discussions and Question-answer sessions and resource person patiently answered all the queries of the participants. Prizes were distributed among the winners. Hari Singh won the 1st prize, Taniya 2nd, and Isha 3rd prize. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Komal Sharma, SLCA official Pallavi Singh
