Director SCERT chairs Valedictory function of KATHASHILP under NIPUN BHARAT | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 15: To carry forward the goal of National Mission by Ministry of Education, GOI, NIPUN BHARAT (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) to ensure that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27, SCERT J&K , Jammu Division has been organizing "Kathashilp" -a weekly series of online story-telling sessions for children in the age group of 3 to 9 years. Programme was launched by Population Education, Girl Education ,ECCE and Education for All Wing of SCERT J&K , Jammu Division in collaboration with Eduweave Foundation and parternered with Miranda House college , Delhi under the directions of Prof.Veena Pandita Director SCERT & guidance of Sh.Surinder Kumar Joint Director SCERT-JK J&K and Sh .N P .Singh-Head of the Wing on Oct 9 , 2021. Today's session was inaugurated by Sh.Surinder Kumar, Joint Director SCERT-JK Jammu Division and Valedictory function was chaired by Director SCERT J&K Prof Veena Pandita who impressed upon the critical relevance of stories and story-telling as a time- tested & effective tool and pedagogical approaches for enhancing literacy & developing language skills among children . She also complemented Team Kathashilp at SCERT and Team Eduweave Foundation and Students of Miranda House for wonderful Conducting 16 week long story sessions. Prof Bijailaxmi Nanda, Principal, Miranda House, University of Delhi who was Guest of honour also was all praise for her students and SCERT J&K and Eduweave Foundation for providing them the platform.whereas Ms Amita Kaushik ,Director Eduweave Foundation and Asst professor, Swaran Lata Saha were special guests on the occasion. Through this initiative children (5-9yrs) were introduced to the magic of stories through different story telling techniques using props, puppets, gestures and voice modulations. The key objectives of this program were Strengthening foundational literacy skills among students of 5 to 9 years of age by using story-telling method as a pedagogical tool. Enabling children to become motivated, independent, and engaged readers and writers These story sessions involved a lot of literacy activities and follow up tasks for enhancing basic reading, writing and listening skills of children. Commenced on 9th Oct, 2021, a 45 minutes story session was conducted every Saturday for students of age 3 to 9 drawn from all districts of Jammu Division by expert story narrators from Eduweave foundation & students of Miranda House ,University of Delhi and concluded today. Amita Kaushik looked forward to work in unison with SCERT-JK and assured support from her organization The program was coordinated by Mr.Deepak Sharma, Sr. Academic Officer and Team Kathashilp at SCERT J&K Jammu Division. Technical Co-ordination was provided by Akash Khajuria.
