Manjit Singh seeks reservation of ST seats in assembly constituencies having less tribal population | | | Early Times Report
SAMBA, Jan 15: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu Manjit Singh has demanded political reservation of Schedule Tribe community in assembly constituencies where they have less population. Speaking at a joining programme organized during a meeting of ST Wing at Barjani in Bari Brahmana, Manjit said that the Schedule Tribe community is among the most neglected and marginalized section of society which remained politically disempowered. “This disempowerment is mostly in the constituencies where they have less population but their representation is always undermined and hence, they face negligence,” he said while speaking at the meeting. He said that in constituencies where they have a majority, they elect their representatives but the problem is being faced where the Gujjars-Bakkerwals have less population. He said that the government should review its politics for the welfare of the nomads who have been the victims of political division. “These people need a rehabilitation policy, economic, and social upliftment,” he said and added that their colonies are neglected and hardly any developmental activities are taken up. He said that Apni Party will work for the social, economic and political upliftment and develop their colonies. |
