IED found on Jammu-Poonch highway, defused | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 29: A major tragedy was averted on Saturday when security forces defused an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) found during routine patrolling on Jammu-Poonch national highway in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Defence sources here said that at around 5 PM, Army patrol of Road Opening Party (ROP) in Shindara area of Surankote spotted a suspicious bag. "The Army convoy was stopped and the traffic was also suspended," they said adding that when frisked, the bag was found to contain an IED, following which the Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately pressed into service. The Bomb Disposal Squad, assisted by the local Police along with the Army shifted the explosive to a safer place and defused it, sources added. "The plot suspected to target the Army convoy was successfully thwarted," they said. |
