Jammu, Jan 29: The BJP faced embarrassment as the president of the Municipal Committee Bishnah, which is headed by the party, was removed from his post for abusing his official position as head of the urban local body. Rajan Sharma, president of Bishnah Municipal Committee was removed from his post by Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Government Housing and Urban Development Department with immediate effect. “In exercise of the power conferred by section 26 of Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000, the government hereby removes Rajan Sharma, President, Municipal Committee, Bishnah from his office on the ground of abuse of his power, with immediate effect”, the order issued by Dheeraj Gupta reads as. After winning the election as an independent candidate from ward number nine, Rajan Sharma had joined BJP in November 2018 just after completion of the Urban Local Bodies elections. As the party required some councilors to muster a majority in Bishnah Municipal Committee, he was offered the post of president of the Bishnah Municipal Committee by the BJP. According to official order issued by the authorities, Rajan Sharma has verbally allocated works amounts of lakhs to some individuals by violating all rules and regulations. After some contractors approached the court of law to get their payment released, higher-ups in the Housing and Urban Development Department ordered an inquiry. During the inquiry, it was found that the president of the Bishnah Municipal Committee has abused this official position and verbally allocated works. |
