Several people detained, woman alleged manhandling by cops | Protest rocks Dangdoru project site | | Asif Iqbal Naik early times REport
Kishtwar, Feb 1: After the failure of much anticipated talks between the agitating DDC Chairperson and Divisional Administration ended in a deadlock yesterday following alleged non responsive behaviour from the administration, project management and the officials at the helm of affairs beside non acceptance of the demands put forth by the agitating DDC Chairperson Kishtwar who is on peaceful Dharna since last 12 days demanding proper rehabilitation of the project affected families, jobs to local unemployed youths, enhancement of wages of the labourers at par with central labour laws and other issues, the protest today rocked at Dangdoru, the project site of under construction 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power Project following which several people has been detained by the police while the women present at the Dharna site also alleged manhandling by some cops. As per the details available with Early Times, the protest took place following intervention by the police who ask the people to vacate the site and allow the work of construction at project site in peaceful atmosphere. The people allege that police use force to disrupt their peaceful Dharna added that the concern Police Official ask them to vacate the site and accompanied them since an FIR has been lodged against them for illegal assembly to which the people objected and raise anti project management and anti-administration slogans demanded jobs as well as dignified compensation and proper rehabilitation at some other location. The people blame that it was the Chief Project Officer who is responsible for injustice with the locals and project affected families and called for his immediate removal as project chief. Meanwhile some women alleged that the cops had manhandled them added that they are ready to go to jail and are even ready to die since they have lost every hope from the incumbent government. Till late evening the protest was continue when last reports came in. It is pertinent to mention that much anticipated talks between the Divisional Administration led by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ragav Langhar, ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DC Kishtwar Ashok Sharma with DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur who was accompanied by Vice Chairperson Saima Parveen, DDC Kishtwar Zakir Rashid Butt, DDC Palmar/Dool Tahir Masood, DDC Nagsini Faisal Hussain, DDC Warwan Abdul Razak, local Sarpanches which continue for more than 2 hours at office complex of NHPC and was also attended by the senior officials of project management, CVPPP with an aim to end the deadlock between the project management and the agitating DDC Chairperson who is leading at the front ended in a deadlock. Soon after senior officials including Divisional Commissioner and ADGP Jammu left the meeting, their was hue and cry inside the meeting hall wherein the DDC chairperson and other members accompanied her accuses the senior officials of acting as a spokesperson on behalf of the company rather being the well wishers of the people who are pining high hope on them with regard to acceptance of genuine demands of the local unemployed youths beside also that of project affected families. Following the emphasis, DDC Chairperson breakdown inside the meeting hall alleging unruly behaviour on part of the senior government officials as well as on part of the project management. After failure of talks with the Government, DDC Chairperson and other today shifted the Dharna venue from Dangdoru to his office adjacent to new DC Office Complex after several people suggested for the same wherein she was joined by Former Minister and Zonal President Chenab Valley Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo who extended her full support to her and called upon the member of civil society and people to join their hands without party affiliation and called for unite fight against the project companies so that the genuine demands and aspirations of the local people could be fulfilled. While addressing the Jam packed Press Conference, DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur said that her fight in which all people including her Counsellors are fully backing her will continue without any fail till the issues pertaining to local unemployed youths and the project affected families could be soughted out. “Our people are the suffer- we attended yesterday meeting with the hope that Divisional Commissioner and ADGP will listen to us and find a solution acceptable to all- but unfortunately they have advance mindset to push us to wall - which we will not allow- we are here to fight for our people- no matter what price we have to pay- we will pay” said DDC Chairperson.
