Poonch, Jan 31: The majority roads in the district Poonch are in dilapidated condition which have literally become accident prone spots but the concerned Public Works (Road and Building) Department has turned its eyes towards the grave condition of roads.
Moreover, the restoration charges which are taken by the department from various departments and private companies for digging up roads are not used properly as only soil is used to fill up them and no blacktopping is done to restore these dug up roads.
Prominent roads including Mandi, Sabazian, Chandmarh, Buffliaz, Chakan-Da-Bagh, Ajote Pul, Chandak-Mandi, Loran are in dilapidated condition. Huge potholes can be seen across the roads filled up with water during rains.
The locals alleged that whenever PHE Department or private companies dug up road to lay down the pipeline or cable, they had to pay restoration charges to the PWD which are not used accordingly as it has been observed that only cosmetic treatment is given to the dug up portion and no proper repair is done, which later turn into big potholes.
Not only this even the newly blacktopped roads start breaking after a few weeks, which exposes the poor quality of work which is executed by the department. “The most prominent Mughal road, which is used to connect Kashmir and plays an important role also remains dilapidated due to huge potholes. Whenever it rains the dug up portion becomes slippery and causes accidents but despite that the department hardly takes note of the incidents,” they alleged
