Road widening spells doom, 10 structures at verge of collapsing | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Feb 24: Nearly ten structures which came under road widening at Kanthgali-Malti road are at the verge of getting collapsed. Residents while talking to Early Times said, “This road was constructed under Prime Minister Garam Sadak Yojana and our houses came in the way, we were told that we will be given compensation but till date no one has come forward to give us even a single penny.” Worst hit family of Munshi Ram called the Sarpanch of his area in dead of the night and informed him about water seeping into his house. The Sarpanch and others shifted them to a safer place. “The road was built nearly one year ago but till date nothing has been done for the poor people whose houses have turned unsafe,” locals said. Pawan Kumar, Sarpanch Kultyar Bala said, “Inhabitants of the badly damaged houses are being asked to relocate themselves either at their relatives homes or anywhere else but still some people are staying put in those crumbling houses. I have paid more than 10 visits to the office of ACR concerned so that the affected people may get compensation but nothing else than assurances has emerged “, he added. Kumar urged the Deputy Commissioner to intervene and come for the rescue of the poor people. |
