Golden cards not working
2/27/2022 11:30:02 PM

The Golden Card not working even in government hospitals has led to poor patients facing numerous problems. No free medicines are being provided to the patients and their attendants are asked to buy these from an open market.
When the Golden Card was introduced the people living under Below Poverty Line (BPL) were told that all their miseries had ended. These cards besides working in the government hospitals were to be honoured by the private hospitals.
The reports that are emerging from different places indicate that the Golden cards are losing significance and people are asking if they have to buy the medicines from the open market then how useful these cards are.
The J&K Administration leaves no stone unturned to claim that the health sector is its priority and the facilities have been enhanced to help the poor people in every possible way. But the card which is aimed at helping the poor when they are in need, not working has led to disillusionment among the people.
The helmsmen need to take note of the sufferings of the people and ensure that enough stock of medicines is made available in the government hospitals so that people don’t struggle and the poor patients get the benefits of the Golden Card.
The claims need to be substantiated rather than these remaining confined to papers only. The promises about making lives easier for the people need to be translated into a reality.
The government needs to ascertain why the medicines are not available in the government hospitals.
It needs to find out whether the patients are being entertained in the private hospitals or are they facing the same treatment in private facilities also.
It’s not only the Golden Cards that are haunting the people. The basic healthcare facilities too are not up to the mark.
Patients in the rural areas are the worst sufferers as they are referred to the health facilities in urban areas where they end up in trouble. The health department officials need to put their act together and ensure that people don’t suffer. Facilities that have been announced by the Government of India need to be implemented in letter and spirit and publicity only won’t help anyone’s cause.
