Nai Basti canal turns into garbage dumping ground | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 27: The canal at the Nai Basti area has come up as a dumping ground for garbage with the people dumping different types of waste in the canal. The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has failed to clean the canal and it presents a picture of absolute neglect. The residents of the area said that they usually dump the garbage in the garbage bins with the people from other localities dumping the garbage in the canal. They said that the JMC authorities have failed to clean the canal and the foul smell emanating from the canal has made their lives miserable. “The administration is making tall claims that Jammu is all set to become a smart city but the Nai Basti canal disproves the claims. The canal is no more a canal but a big drain with all the filth and garbage being dumped into it. It is high time that the administration pulls up the socks and takes the corrective measures,” said the residents. The residents said that the water of the canal was so clean that it was used for drinking purposes adding that over the years it has seen a lot of neglect. They demanded intervention from the people at the highest level so that the Nai Basti canal retains its lost glory and people heave a sigh of relief. |
