Handicap collects money for repair of road in Akhnoor
Unique way to wake up authorities

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 27: In what could be described as a unique way to wake up the authorities from their deep slumber, a handicap person in Akhnoor in Jammu district is raising funds for the repair of a road stretch near Nirdosh Chowk in the town.
Stationed beside a road stretch near Nirdosh Chowk dotted with a ditch, the man with crutches is making fervent appeals to the passersby for donating at least ten rupees for initiating the repair of the road which has been in a dilapidated condition for the past some time.
Surprisingly, several people could be seen donating money to the handicap person in order to repair and fill a deep ditch on the road developed due to digging work executed by the PHE Department a few months ago.
The man with the mission while making an appeal to the public is saying that donate for the repair of the road as the Municipal Committee Akhnoor has no funds to restore the stretch.
“I am urging people to donate ten rupees to fill the ditch and avoid occurrence of frequent accidents at this spot. A few days ago a trolley turned turtle here. If one gets handicap due to the poor condition of the road then who will be made responsible and what will be the future of a person in case he loses his or her limb or leg,” he said.
Residents of Akhnoor are aggrieved over the dilapidated condition of the road stretch in the heart of town, which is in shambles since long thus causing great inconvenience to the locals while the government seems to be in deep slumber.
“Such bad condition of the road is quite visible to everyone. All including top politicians, ex-MLAs and bureaucrats are moving on this road but they seem least bothered for its repair. They just ignore it and move on,” said a resident.
The administration has shown a lackadaisical attitude to repair this road to facilitate smooth vehicular movement.
The ditch has made the journey in vehicles as well as commuters treacherous and risky especially for patients.
Several people of adjoining areas claimed that they had called on higher ups several times with a complaint but their requests met with deaf ears.
Another resident said that if the administration has no will to make the repairs of the road stretch then allow him to provide material for fixing the potholes.
