Casual labourers stage protest, demand implementation of minimum Wages Act | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 4: Demanding implementation of the minimum wages act and regularization of their services, hundreds of casual labourers from various departments on Friday staged a protest demonstration. The protesting casual labourers were raising slogans against the authorities like "We want justice and we want regularization of our services." Protestors say the authorities are paying no heed towards our problems despite working in all the seasons; we are hardly getting the salaries we deserve. One of the protesters said that the purpose of today's protest was to give a wakeup call to the administration which is in a deep slumber. "We staged the protest in order to attract the attention of BJP's top leadership as well as the Union Home Minister who while on a visit to Jammu had openly announced minimum wages act and Safai Karamchari act for the casual labours working in J&K but unfortunately it is not visible on ground," he said. "If the J&K government did not pay heed to our demands then the casual labourers from all the departments would chalk out a new strategy under the banner of United Front. We will not relent from hitting the roads or observing tool down strike. We will not step back until our demands are conceded. The responsibility lies with the government," he added. Another casual labour said that time and again we were assured that our services would be regularized, and the day has yet to come. The protesting casual labourers urged the administration to look into the matter and implement the minimum wage act in their favor. |
