Dry Dadi canal worries farmers, orchardists of Anantnag | | | Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Mar 14: People associated with the agriculture and horticulture sectors in this South Kashmir district are worried since the Dadi canal supplying water to farms and orchards is dry and the people at helm have not released water to the canal up to this point of time. A group of residents while sharing views with Early Times said that in the first week of March the canal is filled with the water but this time around the canal continues to be dry even though we are in the third week of March. They said repeated pleas have fallen on deaf ears with no action being taken by the administration. “We requested the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and the engineering staff to release the water to the canal but they have not paid any heed to the same. If the situation continues to be the same then thousands of Kanals of agriculture and horticulture land would be turned barren. This would result in economic losses for the farmers and orchardists,” said the residents. The residents urged the district administration and the Irrigation & Flood Control department to release the water to the Dadi canal so that their mental agony comes to an end. They said that they would have to spend a lot of money to irrigate their farms and orchards. |
