Will continue protest till J&K Govt frames regularization policy for SPOs: Bali | | | earLY tIMES rEPORT
Jammu, Mar 17: President of All India Voice of Poor People (AIVPP), Seva Singh Bali, continued with his dharna here on Thursday to press for the demand of regularization of Special Police Officers (SPOs) and other issues concerning them. Bali said, “Our demand is clear. We want the J&K Government to frame policy for the Special Police Officers (SPOs). They should be given salaries at par with the constables. The ones who have been disengaged should be engaged again and the ones who have retired should be given retirement benefits.” He said, “It’s unfortunate that helmsmen call SPOs as temporary arrangement. If they have been appointed on temporary basis then why are they sent on forefront during encounters? Why are their lives put at risk.” Bali said. “We want to tell everyone that there is a rule that states equal work and equal pay. If SPOs are doing 24-hours duty why aren’t they being paid at par with others?” He said, “All temporary employees working in various government departments of Jammu and Kashmir are getting regularized after rendering certain years of service, whereas SPOs who are temporary employees of the Police Department are never regularized by the government and till today no policy has been framed by the government to deal with the issue of SPOs regularization. We will continue to sit on dharna till the government frames a regularization policy for the SPOs.” He said, “It’s unfortunate that no one in Jammu and Kashmir wants to listen to the small time employees. Despite the Centre giving all the needed clearance the SPOs are being deprived of their genuine rights.”
