UP, Harayana, Goa, other states declare ‘Kashmir Files’ tax free, J&K Govt indecisive | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 17: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been declared tax-free in several states, all of which are ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The film, which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s, hit the theatres on March 11 and has left the viewers in tears. It depicts the pain and agony of Kashmiri Pandit community that was forced to migrate from the Valley by the Pakistan sponsored terrorists in 1990. Many states, including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Harayana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Goa and Uttarakhand have made it tax free but it’s yet to be made tax free in Jammu and Kashmir. Voices to make the Kashmir Files in J&K tax free are becoming shriller as it’s for the first time in the past three decades that someone from Bollywood has made a film depicting the pain of a community which had to leave everything behind to save its honour and lives. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “If other states can make the Kashmir Files tax free why the J&K Government can’t do it. It appears that it’s indecisive. Everyone in the Jammu region wants to see this movie. It should be screened in Kashmir also. If the laser show can be held in Dal Lake, why can't the Kashmir Files be screened there.” It’s in place to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah had stated that the Kashmir Files reflects the truth and the entire world needs to watch it. |
