Sport teaches us patience | | | Vijay Garg
Often I watch cricket matches on the TV present at home. I had this interest in my childhood, now till two years ago, I would watch the match only as long as the Indian batsmen were scoring runs. I have rarely seen Indian bowling properly. To look like this would have been only with the hope of victory. As soon as the victory seemed to be coming out of the hands of the Indian team, the TV would go off. Then gradually the interest in watching the match decreased and the concern about future and self-reliance along with education and the problems related to it diverted attention from this side. Then with time the circumstances taught that no matter how clear our intention, we have worked hard, but it is not necessary at all to do everything according to our plan or our thought or the result should be in our favor. That is to say, after completing your work, you need to prepare yourself not only for the possibility of its consequences, but also for every apprehension. Now I feel that the proportion in which we will be able to prepare ourselves mentally for apprehensions and accidents, accordingly we will be able to see things with ease. These happen with everyone. Now I don’t like watching cricket matches much, so when it comes time to watch it, I watch this game without any prejudice and expectation. Sport teaches us patience. It’s just like life. It teaches that one is always bound to live in uncertainty. Sport tells us that very often the circumstances turn against us from the very beginning, yet we have to stick to the end, because we cannot choose to get out of the fight. To be out of conflict simply means to accept defeat. And when any player comes on the field, then he never thinks that he will lose. Apart from this, even if you get defeated after a struggle full of capacity, then it also has a dignity. In fact, sport teaches us that sometimes there is nothing more important than patience. When conflict seems like a complex challenge to overcome, we have to wait for that time to pass more than do much. Even in this wait, you have to maintain the spirit of your struggle. In the meantime, what happens is that if we have not given up by then, the possibility of reversing at any moment to come remains till the end. Most importantly, sport teaches us to respect the dedication and the spirit that lies more in the process than in the result, in which we spend more time. That’s how I look at the game now. I wait for the match when for some reason I feel very helpless or when I can’t read at all despite trying. Now I see not only the innings of the Indian teams but also the innings of the opposition teams and feel that feeling that when one side dominates the other, then after all how the players feel! With what thinking and state of mind do they stand in the field! I really get a lot of inspiration from the bowler who keeps trying to take wickets even after his balls are pushed across the boundary line by the batsmen. There have been many occasions when the players of the opposition team reached the door of victory while scoring runs on the balls of a bowler, but the last ball stopped them from stopping the victory. Similarly, there are also examples of those who scored the runs needed to win on a last ball. Now I am finding this game very interesting again. I feel it and can relate to my situation on many occasions. Often I see the ups and downs of the game on an emotional level and find that fighting is a big deal in sports as well as in life. No matter how bad the times, however unfavorable the conditions, one day everything has to pass. The only condition is that we do not give up trying. That is, we should be engaged till the last moment. The truth is that this passion, such passion and complete belief in one’s own ability, only teaches a man to enjoy this game of life beyond success and failure. This joy is not less than any great value of life. |
