Periodic Labour Force Survey opens Pandora’s | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 21: The Jammu & Kashmir administration has been claiming that it has brought down the unemployment rate in the union territory but on the ground the facts belie the tall claims of the people at helm. The “Periodic Labour Force Survey April-June 2021” released by the statistics and programme implementation ministry clearly spells out 46 percent of youth are unemployed in Jammu & Kashmir. Jammu & Kashmir figures at second spot as far as unemployment percentage in the country is concerned. The magnitude of unemployment in Jammu & Kashmir can be gauged by the fact that more than five lakh unemployed youth applied for around 8,000 jobs for class IV posts advertised some time back. The startling facts point out that the Jammu & Kashmir administration has to pull up its socks vis-a-vis improving the employment figures. Experts believe that the survey has shown a mirror to the UT administration and it has to create jobs in lakhs so that the unemployment graph comes down in Jammu & Kashmir. It would be in place to mention here that private sector has failed to live up to its reputation of producing jobs for the unemployed youth of Jammu & Kashmir. |
