2-years on, Dhalwas residents await compensation | | | Early Times Report
Ramban, Mar 28: Residents of Dhalwas who lost their agricultural land and their houses during a massive landslide on this day in 2020, are still awaiting compensation. Locals staged a protest against the government failing to compensate even two years after the landslide struck. “We were promised adequate relief but for the past two years we have been running from pillar to post to get heard but no one is listening to us. We are paying a heavy price for four-laning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,” they added. Residents said that every time we are told that compensation would be paid in 15-days but till date 15-days haven’t been completed. “Some of us live in Panchayat Ghar and in a school. The government seems least bothered about our plight,” they added. Residents said that the landslide occurred due to the wrong cutting carried out by the company which was carrying the four-lanning of the highway. “Forty houses had collapsed due to the landslide. We were promised rent for living in the rented houses but not a single penny has been paid till date. If the government fails to pay us compensation within 15-days we will hit the streets and block the highway,” they added. |
