Jammu, Mar 28: Amid the ongoing debate over the much-publicized movie “The Kashmir Files”, residents of Jammu and Kashmir recalled the period of former Governor Jagmohan who had set an example of good governance during his first tenure.
Jagmohan’s name has surfaced in the on-going debate on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus after the screening of the movie. “After debate on The Kashmir Files residents of Jammu and Kashmir have started recollecting the time of Governor Jagmohan whose tenure would be remembered as a golden era in the history of Jammu and Kashmir”, a resident of Jammu told The Early Times and compared present autocratic regime with Jagmohan’s government.
While the administration of the Lieutenant Governor has failed to establish a connection with the common masses, Jagmohan had set an example of how to directly connect with the people without getting publicity.
Unlike the present regime which is spending crores and crores of rupees on the advertisement to mislead the Union Government about the implementation of welfare schemes on the ground, Governor Jagmohan had solved peoples’ problems without any advertisement or publicity.
It was during the tenure of Jagmohan, the residents of Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed good governance- the first and last time in the history of this state.
After the imposition of Governor rule in J&K, people were hoping that they will get a taste of good governance but all their hopes were dashed during the last one and half years after flourishing of mafia in J&K.
As reported earlier both National Conference and PDP have been blaming then Governor Jagmohan for the migration of Pandits.
NC president Farooq Abdullah has proposed setting up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to find out what had happened at that time. “Whatever happened in 1990 was a tragedy. I would like everything to be investigated properly,” Abdullah has said.
