Power scenario in Jammu to worsen as JPDCL falls short of 200 MWs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: If the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited is reportedly facing a shortfall of 200 Megawatts and it can lead to Jammu region facing severe power crisis in the coming months. According to the sources the JPDCL is grappling to put its act together as the temperatures in Jammu region are soaring due to which demand for electricity has increased manifolds. As per the official figures, at present there is a requirement of 1100 Megawatts of electricity per day across the Jammu region while availability from all the sources is just 900 Mega Watts as such there is a shortfall of 200 Megawatts. The Northern Grid too is not able to provide electricity as per the agreement. If the temperatures keep on rising the government will have to buy the electricity at the rate of Rs 15 per unit from the open market, which won’t be feasible. “There is every possibility about JPDCL resorting to unscheduled power cuts,” the sources added. They said that at present the JKPDCL has no other plan available as there has been a drastic decline in the power generation due to levels of rivers declining. “People of Jammu are set to face the drastic power cuts amid the sweltering heat as the JPDCL seems helpless,” sources added. It may be recalled that in 2021, Jammu region faced unscheduled power cuts during the summer season as the JPDCL failed to regulate the power supply. At that point of time the corporation had assured the consumers that they won’t face the similar situation in future as enough measures have been taken to fill in the gaps. “It seems that assurances of the JPDCL were a hoax as the corporation stands exposed yet again,” said an observer. |
