Jammu, Apr 27: Facing the wrath of the people for unprecedented power crises in the Jammu region, BJP leadership has asked its second line leadership to expose the J&K government for its failure to provide basic amenities to the people. Due to fear of the high command, top J&K leadership is hesitating to accept the reality but the party has indirectly allowed its second line leadership to take on UT administration. After maintaining a criminal silence over the woes of the masses, today BJP youth wing issued a handout on power crises. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state media secretary Chetan Wanchoo strongly criticized the UT administration for the prevailing unprecedented electricity and water crisis across the Jammu region amid soaring temperature and demanded immediate restoration of adequate and uninterrupted power supply to the people. In a press statement issued here, the BJYM Wanchoo mocked the tall claims of the UT administration and said that unbridled and unscheduled power cuts have exposed the poor contingency plans of the Power Development Department (PDD) and its preparedness to meet the demand for power supply during the peak summer season. “The unscheduled long power cuts have also triggered water crisis in different parts of the Union Territory. The UT administration headed by Lieutenant Governor (LG) had announced that the metered areas would be provided round-the-clock electricity after the installation of smart meters but the ground situation is altogether different Ultimately BJP breaks silence on the unprecedented power crisis in Jammu here,” Wanchoo said. He said the people are being forced to come on roads against the PDD as a series of outages, especially during night hours have not only subjected the people to umpteen hardships but also disturbed the sleeping habits of elderly people and young children. “Industrialists, traders, businessmen, and students are the worst affected due to unscheduled long power cuts,” he said. The BJYM leader also took strong exception to the inflated bills being issued to the consumers after the installation of smart meters and said, “Only smart meters have been installed but smart and adequate electricity supply to the consumers is still a distant dream”. Appreciating the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government for extending liberal funding to Jammu and Kashmir, especially in power sector reforms, Wanchoo said it was a matter of concern that unscheduled long power cuts have become a perennial problem. “The Centre has always shown magnanimity while extending financial help to Jammu and Kashmir but the existing electricity crisis reflects that the funds provided for bringing reforms in power sector have not been utilized properly and a lot of work still needs to be done to provide some succor to the people,” the BJYM leader said. Wanchoo urged the UT administration for initiating immediate measures to assess the power scenario across Jammu and Kashmir. “The government should take all corrective measures to ensure that the people don’t face any hardship amid scorching heat,” the BJYM leader said. |
