Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 27: For three successive months Jammu and Kashmir spent crores and crores of rupees on publicity-both in print and electronic media, to create a fake impression that the power situation has been improved in the Union Territory. From January to March 2022, newspapers were flooded with advertisements, worth crores, issued on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) in which some consumers were quoted as claiming that the power situation in their respective areas has been improved after installation of electronic meters. Publishing of these colourful advertisements remained routine affairs till the power infrastructure completely collapsed during the first week of April. Such advertisements were also issued for the electronic media also.
The Lieutenant Governor’s administration was forced to stop such false advertisements but only after spending crores and crores of rupees.
Highly placed sources in the corridors of power said that crores of rupees were spent on such advertisements which were ultimately proved as the biggest fraud with the people of J&K in general and the Jammu region in particular.
Sources said that Union Government has allocated funds to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to purcha
For three successive months, J&K government spent crores and crores of rupees on fake advertisements to create a false impressing about the power situation in UT
e power during the summer to minimize the woes of the people. “Instead of protecting these funds to purchase power at a crucial time, the UT administration brazenly spent these funds on the publicity just to befool the people”, sources said and added that money was misused on the fake advertisements to give undue benefits to some blue-eyed organizations.
Highly placed sources said that during the last one and half years, the incumbent J&K government has spent crores and crores of rupees just on fake publicity but on the ground situation is worsening with every passing day.
As power infrastructure completely collapsed on the first of April, Jammu and Kashmir is facing the worst ever power crisis in its history.
Jammuites, who are always honest to pay their power bills, have been forced to face the brunt of about 12-14 hours of unscheduled power cuts during these scorching hot summer days. The promise of 24×7 electricity supply with the Smart Metering has proved as a cruel joke to the residents because the areas where these meters have been installed are also facing the same crisis. The situation is worsening with every passing with a soaring temperature. It appears that the incumbent J&K Government has done nothing to improve the power situation in the Union Territory.
