New Delhi upset with Raj Bhawan over power crisis, babu under scanner! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 4: The Raj Bhawan has yet again come “under the scanner” of the New Delhi, this time for the prevalent power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir. Top sources told the Early Times that in the wake of massive public outcry over the power crisis, New Delhi got inputs that “mishandling of a routine affairs” of the Power Development Department by Raj Bhawan in general and one official in particular, pushed Jammu and Kashmir to crises. Sources said New Delhi has “conveyed it to the Raj Bhawan that such carefree approach of its favorite officers would not be tolerated hence forth.” It was reliably learnt that the official in question had taken the “power outages lightly and was not bothered to even review the matter with seriousness till it snowballed into crisis.” Sources said it was only following roadside protests at various places in Jammu and Kashmir coupled with the severe reaction of the political parties that the Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on April 26 personally called a high level meeting to review the crisis. It was reliably that Mehta spoke tough at the meeting and told the PDD to take immediate measures like request for more power from the Northern Grid. Sources said immediately thereafter the PDD woke up to the crises, demanding more power. Sources said the corridors of power in New Delhi have got inputs that one official on deputation was unable to perform as per the expectations of the Bharatiya Janta Party led government at the centre. “See there’s no shortage of resources from Modi Government which wants the people of Jammu and Kashmir to get the best of the services but still if the people are facing power crisis, there’s something wrong with the system,” said some officials on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the official in question despite being told by the PDD before hand that there was a need to be “proactive to get more power from the Northern Grid, had been sleeping over the issue.” Interestingly, a few months ago, the same officer had come under the scanner for allegedly improper handling of the protests by PDD staff, when he had subsequently sought help from the Indian Army to run power supplies. Despite repeated attempts the official was not available for comments. |
