Jammu, Aug 17: First additional sessions judge, Jammu, M A Chowdhary today rejected the bail applications of two inter-state narco smugglers. The accused included Jithin P C and Nizamudin, both residents of Kerala. On June 7, 2016, they, along with three others, were going in a Santro car (JK03B/5905) when a SOG team had intercepted them at Narwal crossing for checking. During checking, 8 kg of heroin, which was packed in eight packets of 1 kg each, were recovered from the possession of Jithin and Nizamudin. The duo possessed four packets each. A large quantity of heroin was recovered from their accomplices - Shafiq Ahmad, driver Abdul Mannan and Surjeet Singh -- too. 6 kg of heroin was recovred from Shafiq, 2 kg from Abdul and 4 kg from Surjeet. A cash of Rs 11,44,000 was also recovered from the car's dicky. A total of 20 kgs of heroin worth crores was recovered from the five accused. A case under section 8/21 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Bahu Fort police station. After hearing the APP, the judge said the drug abuse had become a major problem in the society over the years. "The illicit drugs have a high addiction potential and there is a gradual increase in their intake, getting the users dependent on them, both physically and psychologically. The compulsive drug seeking and use, on addiction, causes chronic brain disease changing the brain, its structure and working," he said. With these observations, the court rejected the bail application of the two accused. |
