Jammu, Aug 17: The students and faculty members of Sainik School Nagrota today gave a rousing welcome to the school volleyball team, which created history by winning the coveted All India Sainik Schools Inter Zonal Volleyball Championship-2016 held at Sainik School Bhubaneshwar, Odisha from Aug 10 -13.
According to spokesperson, in a thrilling final match, they defeated Sainik School Nalanda Bihar to clinch their maiden National Championship Title in Volleyball.
"Among strong competitors in this tourney were Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal (East Zone), Sainik School Nalanda, Bihar(Central Zone), Sainik School Balachadi, Gujarat(West Zone), Sainik School Korukonda Andhra Pradesh (South Zone) and Sainik School Nagrota, J&K (North Zone) which have qualified for the national level finals by virtue of winning their respective zonal tournaments held earlier during the beginning of the current academic session, school spokesperson said.
He maintained that for Sainik School Nagrota, it was an opportunity to salvage their pride as they subdued their arch-rivals Sainik School Kunjpura Haryana in straight sets at the North Zone tournament held at Sainik School Kapurthala Punjab earlier in June 2016."
He said, "During the tourney they kicked off their victory campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over South Zone Champions Sainik School Korukonda." "As the tournament progressed, Nagrotians gained momentum and trounced Sainik School Purulia and Balachadi on the trot in consecutive matches, spokesperson said while sharing the journey to victory. "The Nagrotians played final against Sainik School Nalanda which turned out to be a nail-baiting one for both the teams, he said, and added, "despite some key players suffering severe injuries, the entire team rose to the occasion and ensured that they finished at the top."
"Col Kapil Dev Koushal Principal of school has congratulated the team and commended the spirited efforts of all the players, coach, PTI's and all the support staff for this spectacular achievement as this is the first ever national level win in Volleyball for Sainik School Nagrota, he concluded. |
