Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 20: Taking a serious note of the alleged irresponsible approach of Samba tehsildar, the state vigilance commission (SVC) has asked the deputy commissioner, Samba, to ensure his personal presence before it along with the requisite report on next date of hearing. The commission has also served a notice on the tehsildar, asking him to show cause as to why the proceedings for non-compliance of its orders shall not be initiated against him under the relevant provisions of SVC Act. Earlier, SVC took cognizance of a complaint lodged by one Thoru Ram, alleging therein that some officials of the forest department of Samba, in connivance and conspiracy with some known timber smugglers of the area, had created a closure on a land that 'falls under khasra No 96 and is owned by him at Duria in Samba without his knowledge'. He alleged that the officials of forest department by abusing their official position had sold illegally forest tress planted on the land and misappropriated the amount received from sale proceedings , causing a huge loss to the government exchequer. In this connection, the commission had sought factual ground report from the Samba tehsildar based on revenue and forest records and demarcation in the light of allegations levelled in the complaint, but he neither submitted the report nor appeared before the commission on the date of hearing, which prima-facie revealed that he was deliberately shielding the omissions and commissions committed by the officials of forest department. |
